Greetings! Spring is in the air and Ripe has been busy, busy bees. We're of course thrilled to be busy during these tough times and we're energized by our creative and collaborative team of programmers, art directors, project managers and Flash gurus. Ripe's focus remains the same, which is to produce top quality work along with truly stellar customer service. That's not just lip service -- it's why we're in this business. If you have a brand, idea or project give us a call to find out how you get more when you go with Ripe. We specialize in developing creative solutions for websites, multimedia and print.

We're currently working on an exciting new site for a client that has a killer design and slick interface. In addition, we have several e-learning projects in production mode. The Ripe team is working at full speed and enjoying every minute of it. Below are some newly launched sites and projects, along with industry information stuff that we want to share.

The Wildwoods Foundation runs an after school program for local schools in which kids take photos and compare characteristics of nature to community-creating a better awareness of the world around them and their effect on it. Ripe created a site that displays each classes' work along with a robust back-end that allows the kids and teachers to manage the site themselves. We are thrilled that this project has won a silver for the 2008 W3 Awards and will be highlighted in a book called MARKET SMART DESIGN, published by HarperCollins.

Fox hired Ripe to create a site that collects well-written LA/Hollywood-based stories to find new talent. The site has very edgy, sometimes controversial, content that is matched with stunning artwork and imagery. The site's homepage smartly utilizes Flash in a way that is seamless and search engine friendly. The stories usually have a dark or dry style of humor that along with the interesting imagery makes for a truly entertaining online magazine experience.

indieclectic.com
This is a music referral system in which established artists recommend other artists. The project was a complete redesign.

UCLA/NCTSN intranet

Ripe Training, our division that handles e-learning development, began work with Disney early in 2008. We developed a flexible, Flash-based framework that works as an interactive program for after school classes. The lessons run on a large touch-screen board that the kids and teachers manually touch and interact with throughout a lesson. The program is a form of "edutainment" through which kids play games, sing songs and watch videos while learning.

We've worked with several open source content management systems and we think Expression Engine is by far the most flexible. Expression Engine gives us the freedom to create sites with complex designs without needing to force it into a pre-set template. Plus, the backend UI is very intuitive and our clients find it easy to use.

An enthusiastic Ripe shoutout to Joe Hajek! Joe is a talented art director who has the magical combination of design expertise and development skills. He's been a major contributor to our web and e-learning projects and on top of that he's a great guy. Joe has been a very valuable addition to the team. Way to go Joe!
